Career / Professional Highlights


Andrew Roberts is CEO of AIFE, Vice-President (Academic) at the Australia Education Management Group (AEMG), and a Professor in the Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES), Australian National University (ANU). He served as Dean of the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at ANU (2012-2017), which includes some of ANU’s powerhouse research schools. He was previously Director of RSES, ANU (2010-2012), a global top-10 school in the QS rankings, and Head of the School of Ocean and Earth Science at the University of Southampton and Associate Director of the National Oceanography Centre (2005-2009) in the UK (then ranked #3 in the world).

Roberts has served on scientific advisory committees in the UK, USA, China, France, Germany, Norway, Australia, and New Zealand. He has published more than 300 papers in peer-reviewed international scientific journals, which have been cited more than 26,000 times. He is a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand. He has been awarded the Leverhulme Prize (2001) for outstanding young UK academics, the Axford Medal by the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society for research excellence, unselfish cooperation and leadership in Asia and Oceania (2019), the American Geophysical Union’s Edward Bullard Lectureship (2020), and the Mawson Medal (2022) by the Australian Academy of Science for contributions to Earth Science in Australia.
