Transforming Ideas into Real-World Impact

AIFE is leading the development of sustainable traditional Chinese herb ecosystems in Tasmania, positioning the State to participate in the rapidly growing global herbal medicine market. Leveraging Tasmania’s clean environment, strong biosecurity, and high agricultural standards, AIFE aims to establish the state as a producer of premium-quality traditional Chinese herbs for both international export and domestic use.

A key component of this vision is the Research Hub for Traditional Chinese Herbs, established by AIFE in partnership with the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture at the University of Tasmania and supported through collaboration with Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine. The research focuses on identifying high-value herb varieties, including Mongolian Milkvetch, Chinese Bellflower, and Peony, that can be grown in Tasmania while meeting international quality standards and demonstrating commercial viability.

AIFE’s long-term strategy extends beyond research to support commercial cultivation, production and processing, workforce education and training, and new opportunities across Tasmania’s agriculture and health sectors. Through this integrated approach, AIFE aims to drive economic growth, strengthen regional industries, and promote holistic health and preventive care, contributing to sustainable community development and long-term wellbeing.
